Wegovy Week 4 - Back On Track

Hi gang

Well, my plan to increase my dose to 1mg worked. I’ve managed to shed all the weight I gained—and even a bit more. At the moment, I’m averaging about half a pound a week, which might not sound like much, but a loss is a loss, and I’ll take it. I’ve now been prescribed 1.7 mg for my next pen, which will be my twelfth, meaning I’ve only got one more pen to go before the study ends.

I haven’t yet decided what I’m going to do once I reach the end of the programme. I never had a specific target weight in mind; in fact, at the beginning, I would have been happy to get down to somewhere between thirteen and thirteen and a half stone. Despite now being at twelve stone, I’m still classed as obese according to the BMI scale. To move into the overweight category, which starts at a BMI of 30, I need to reach eleven stone five pounds. To be considered a healthy weight, I’d need to slim down to nine stone six pounds—a figure that feels almost ridiculous for someone who hasn't been that for almost thirty-five years.

That said, losing another nine pounds over the next eleven weeks is entirely achievable if I put in enough effort. If I can hit eleven stone five by the time the study concludes, I think I’ll stop using the injections and try to maintain my weight using the Fast800 method. For those unfamiliar, this involves eating a sensible, balanced diet for five days out of seven and limiting intake to just 800 calories on the other two days. It’s a structured approach that has worked for many people, and I’m hopeful it could work for me too.

Of course, I’m not naïve about the challenges ahead. I don’t know how I’ll cope with going back to feeling hungry and dealing with food noise again. I’ve read that it takes five to seven weeks for the medication to completely leave your system, so technically, I won’t be Wegovy-free until March next year. Still, I feel like I need to try to manage on my own. If I struggle, there’s nothing stopping me from restarting the medication later.

Despite losing so much weight, I still think of myself as very overweight, even though I'm far from it now. What doesn’t help is that my belly stubbornly holds onto fat. I suspect this is partly due to my age, as menopausal women naturally tend to gain fat around the midsection. This means I’m wearing size 16 tops and dresses, but my trousers and jeans are still size 18. It’s frustrating, but I’m trying to focus on the progress rather than perfection. I still do a double take when I pass by shop windows as I don't recognise myself!

I’ve also read that a new Wegovy pill is expected to launch in the UK in early 2026. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to be any cheaper because of manufacturing costs, which is disappointing—I think many people were hoping it would bring prices down. Still, it could be a good option for those who dislike injections. I understand Weight Watchers plans to offer the tablet form as part of their weight-loss programme, which seems like a clever move.

On the downside, I’m still struggling with constipation and bloating. I had hoped these would be short-lived side effects, like the diarrhoea I experienced when using Mounjaro, but that hasn’t been the case. I’ve increased my fibre intake, which helps for a few days, but then the constipation returns. I’m careful not to let it build up, but it would be lovely to feel regular again.

I mentioned my issues with constipation when completing my refill questionnaire for SheMed. I was worried they might not let me increase my dose, but I felt honesty was important. In response, they emailed me a list of tips: eat more fruits, vegetables, and grains (which I already do), use laxatives (which I also do), and exercise regularly. That last suggestion is fair—I start the week well, but my routine tends to fall apart as work and family commitments pile up. Still, if I want to shift that last nine pounds, I need to try harder. Plus, regular exercise might help get my bowels moving again.

So, this weeks stats are:

Weight - 12st 0lb
BMI - 31.7
Total weight loss since 6th Jan 2025 - 4 stone 10lbs
Total loss - 2.5lb
Wegovy dose - 1mg
Total weight loss on Mounjaro - 3 stone 12.5lbs

One thing I've noticed on the Facebook groups is that people who have only used Wegovy are very happy with how things are going, whereas people who previously used Mounjaro are less so. I understand why; they don't work in the same way so if you're expecting to feel the same suppression you're going to be disappointed. However, I've taken a bit of comfort knowing that Wegovy works and it's kept me motivated!

Until next week, ta ta x
