Wegovy week 2 and 3 - Bloating, Wind & Bunged Up

Hi gang

I didn’t have time to post my blog last week as I went away for the weekend to celebrate a birthday, so I’m combining weeks 2 and 3.

After a good start on Wegovy, it all came crashing down. My second week was one of constant constipation and bloating. My clothes felt tight and I was generally very uncomfortable. I managed to lose half a pound, but it felt like hard work. In the end, I had to resort to constipation tablets and glycerine suppositories to get things moving. The trouble with this is that it makes me pass wind constantly and without warning.

There’s nothing more embarrassing than farting in public. I remember, when I was pregnant, being at an antenatal appointment which was really busy. I was leaning up against a wall when I sneezed and a very loud fart escaped. It was really embarrassing, but what made it worse was that one of the expectant mothers had brought her husband along. He thought he was hilarious when he announced loudly, “What was that?”. This caused general sniggering all round the clinic and I wanted to die on the spot. I really hope he’s bald and fat now.

I had a lovely time at the weekend. We stayed in a lodge with a hot tub (the bubbles weren’t because of my wind problem). The problem was that I had absolutely no suppression at all and I ate and drank far too much. I still struggled to finish an entire meal, but I was perfectly happy to graze on crisps, chocolate, crusty bread and Black Forest gateau. This is something I haven’t done in more than ten months, but I’m not going to beat myself up about it too much as we all have to let our hair down sometimes.

The upshot is that I gained a lot of weight in a very short space of time. I’m going to have to really put the effort in to make sure I get rid of it by next week. I recalculated my daily calories on the BBC Good Food website to see how much further I need to cut my intake. When I first started, I needed to eat around 1,600 calories a day to lose at least a pound a week, which was quite easy. Now, I need to eat  1,200 or less, which is much, much harder.

One of the things that I've found very different from Mounjaro is that I get hungry at very odd times. I've woken in the night with a rumbling tummy, which makes it difficult to go back to sleep. I don't like being hungry because it makes me want to eat everything in sight but I suppose I need to get used to it eventually. There will be a point when I'll have to maintain my weight without the jabs.

Of course, increasing the amount of exercise and the intensity of exercise I do will also help, but it’s so hard to keep my motivation going when the nights are dark and it’s cold outside. But, if I want to make the most of using weight-loss drugs, I need to put the effort in. It really is that simple. When we were away, we walked from Whitecliff Bay, over Culver Down and into Sandown and back. It was seven miles in all and I really enjoyed it. I really should try and do a long walk like that at least once a week.

Stats for the last two weigh-ins:

Week 2 - Weight - 12st 0.5lb
BMI - 31.7
Wegovy dose - 0.5mg
Total loss - 2lb
Total weight loss on Mounjaro - 3 stone 12.5lbs
Total weight loss since 6th Jan 2025 - 4 stone 9.5lbs

Week 3 - Weight - 12st 3.5lb
BMI - 32.3
Wegovy dose - 0.5mg
Total loss - +1lb
Total weight loss on Mounjaro - 3 stone 12
5lbs
Total weight loss since 6th Jan 2025 - 4 stone 6.5lbs

Because the dose of Wegovy I'm on is not suppressing my appetite, I've decided to start my 1mg pen a week early. There seems little point in using a medication that's not working for me. Hopefully, it will kick in and get me back on track. I'll let you know how I get on.

Fingers crossed for next time.

Bye x
