My Mounjaro Journey Week 25 - Football and Health Successes!

Hello

I'm a very, very happy woman. Not because of Mounjaro (although it does make me happy), but because the Lionesses beat Sweden in the Women's Euros. It was a really frustrating match to watch though — England were 2–0 down within 25 minutes and it looked like we were going out. Thanks to a couple of super subs, we managed to get it back to 2–2 in the 81st minute. That's how the game ended after extra time, and England won 3–2 on penalties. The Swedish goalie even saved four of them, but Sweden’s nerve let them down and four of their players missed completely. Thank goodness! Next up is the semi-final against Italy.

Sorry if you're not very interested in women's football, but I'm fanatical about it. I've been a season ticket holder for a women's football team ever since it was possible to get one, back in 2018. I went to Lyon for the 2019 Women's World Cup, and I went to the Women's Euros held in the UK in 2022. The final at Wembley was one of the best days of my life. If I had a wish, I wouldn’t ask for a million pounds or to have the figure of a supermodel; I'd wish to relive July 2022.

You'll be pleased to know that I’m not going to regale you with my top 100 players or footballing moments — although I might start a separate blog for that, but I will be updating you with the Lionesses’ progress each week. Don't worry, there's only the semi-final and final to go.

Back to the Mounjaro. It's been really odd lately because I'm not really interested in food, but I'm still craving sweet stuff. I'll happily munch on chocolate, sweets and cakes, but have to force myself to eat 'normal' food. I'm also finding myself getting hungry by the fourth day. The upshot is that I'm struggling with my willpower a bit.

Before I started on the injections, SheMed required a blood test. They used it to make sure I didn’t have any underlying health conditions that would stop me from being eligible. Because I'm on the clinical study, I've recently done another one to see how I'm progressing. Well, the results are in — and it's undeniable that eating a healthy diet, doing more exercise, and losing weight is definitely good for your health.

I've improved my readings in every area. My cholesterol is now in the normal range, which means my heart health has improved. My liver function is normal, my thyroid is normal, and I'm well below the level for prediabetes. If I’d carried on eating the way I was, I think I'd now be nearer 17 stone and possibly suffering with type 2 diabetes.

There are a lot of scare stories about the weight loss jab causing pancreatitis and other life-threatening issues — especially in the Daily Mail and on social media — but the benefits far outweigh the risks. According to the data for 2024, just 18 UK deaths were linked to Mounjaro (tirzepatide), 29 linked to Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy (semaglutide), and 35 deaths linked to Victoza (liraglutide). However, not all of these deaths have been proven to be solely the result of using weight loss jabs, with other factors being taken into account.

When you consider that half a million people were using the medication last year, the number of deaths is minuscule in comparison. Compare that to an estimated 30,000 deaths per year from the effects of obesity, and it seems safer to use the weight loss jabs. However, I would always recommend that anyone considering them should speak to their doctor or health provider first — there are risks involved and some illnesses make them unsuitable.

Anyway, this weeks results:

Weight  - 13st 1lb (82.5kg)
Mounjaro dose - 7.5mg
BMI - 34.5
Total loss - 3 stone 0lbs

I'm still off sick from work and I haven't been able to get out and about as much as I'd like but I'm feeling much better now so I should be back to my old routine soon.  I've got my bike all ready and am looking forward to getting out and about on it over the summer.

Have a great week x
