My Mounjaro Journey Week 14 - Back on it

Hello

Well, I was fully expecting to be telling you all that I hadn't lost any weight this week; even that I'd gained.  If you read last week's blog, you'll know I didn't bother calorie counting and did a lot of snacking whilst on holiday.  Well, I'm here to report that I still lost weight; not much, but a loss is a loss.  I had intended on talking about goals other than just what the scales say this week but I'll have to save that for another time when I need the motivation.

The experience has proved that Mounjaro does exactly what it says on the tin; it stops you being a greedy pig.  The science behind it is that it slows your digestion which keeps your stomach fuller for longer.  What I found was that I just couldn't eat as much as I wanted.  Even when I grazed, I still wasn't eating a huge amount of calories.

One thing I did notice after a week of eating sugary snacks and very little fruit and veg is that my resting heart beat increased by around ten beats per minute.  That's roughly an extra 14,000 beats per day,  430,000 per month and over five million per year!  After a few days of eating healthily, it's gone back to normal.  Apparently, they say you only have a limited amount of heart beats per lifetime so I can't help thinking about how many heart beats I've wasted in the past.

I bought a new book this week, it's called Food Noise and it's by Dr Jack Mosley. He's the son of Dr Michael Mosley, the author of Fast 800 and the poor man who died whilst out on a walk on the Greek island of Symi.  It's a very informative read and some of it is quite shocking.  For example, the regulation around these weight loss jabs isn't as tight as it could be.  People are able to get it when they don't need it.  Apparently, there are tiktok accounts where men and women explain how to get the drugs to be "beach body ready" or to help with weight training and fitness programs.

Another shocking fact is that doctors are seeing an increase in malnutrition. There are stories of people literally living on three biscuits per day because there's no hunger with the jabs so they can really limit their food intake.  This is obviously very bad for people with eating disorders but they are finding it easy to get the medication because they often only have to complete an online form then have it delivered to their home.  So, we should expect more regulation and stringent checks, especially now the drug could soon be available over the counter for the cost of a prescription.

I've noticed that there are a lot of posts in the SheMed Community where people have become disillusioned and have decided to give up.  Some because they've been too ill, which is a real shame and perfectly understandable but some because they're not happy with only losing 2% of their body weight every month.  I sort of get it.  If you're paying £159 a month and could lose the same amount at Slimming World or WeightWatchers for a much lower cost, it must seem like you're throwing money away.  However, unless you can stick with it for long enough to lose all the weight and maintain, you would probably be better off sticking with the Mounjaro.  Yes, 2% might not be a great deal but that 2% will build up over time.

I started my sponsored walk this week.  I'm feeling very motivated and am hoping that it will spur me on to walking regularly again.  Walking is low impact but is very beneficial from a fitness point of view.  It releases endorphins which makes you feel much happier too.

Okay, so this weeks stats are:

Weight  - 14st 5.5lbs
Mounjaro dose - 5mg
BMI - 38.1
Total loss - 1 stone 9.5lbs
Walked 3 miles - 97 to go

I'm back to tracking calories and ensuring that I have at least a 500 calorie deficit every day. Hopefully, I'll have a good loss next week after the last couple of weeks.

I hope you're all enjoying the bank holiday.

Bye x
