My Mounjaro Journey Week 9 - Starting To See The Health Benefits

Hi gang

As I've mentioned before, part of the reason I decided to start using Mounjaro was because of a blood test I had before Christmas which showed that I was vitamin D deficient and prediabetic; both the symptom of being overweight.  My blood sugar score was 42 which is just over the normal range.  When I did my blood test for SheMed, they recorded my score at 45.  If I carried on the way I was, I probably would've developed type 2 diabetes within 5 years.

As three months had passed, I booked a follow up test which I had a few days ago. I got my results today and the results are amazing. My vitamin D is now in the normal range and my blood sugar score is 34 meaning I'm no longer prediabetic. Go me!

So, how did I manage to do it?  Well, losing over 10% of my body weight has obviously helped massively but cutting as much sugar out of my diet as possible is the biggest reason. Now I love hot sweet tea and I've tried so many times over the years to stop having sugar but all that happened is that I stopped drinking tea.  I did switch to halfspoon about 5 years ago but that had to go too, so I found a product called Sugarly by Canderel. It's expensive in comparison to sugar but it tastes exactly like sugar so totally worth it.  It's great on my bran flakes.

Now, I'm no expert but I have done a bit of research into what happens when you eat carbohydrates.  Just like all foods, some that contain carbs are worse than others.  For example, things like white bread, rice and pasta are worse than wholemeal bread, rice and pasta.  The reason is that fibre helps the sugars release slowly so you don't get sugar spikes.  Spikes cause your pancreas to work harder.

Fruit has a lot of natural sugars but the fibre in them helps the sugar release slowly.  When you squeeze the juice from fruits, it becomes bad sugar so you should avoid fruit juice. Sweet potatoes have more fibre than potatoes so I substitute sweet potato whenever possible.

Cooking from scratch is also important as it avoids processed foods which are full of sugars.  I make sure I eat fish at least twice a week, which is hard as I'm not a fan of any fish that tastes fishy; so I basically eat cod, haddock or basa and tinned tuna. I have one meat free day a week and try to keep red meats to once a week.  If your a beginner to cooking, I'd recommend using something like Gousto or Hello Fresh.

I haven't been an angel by any means. I've had the odd wagon wheel and ice cream.  I've even had a pizza from the local takeaway but the difference is that these are now treats and not the norm like they were before. And it's all worked so totally worth it.

Plus, of course, I haven't had any alcohol for 80 days. I have to say though, Mounjaro has really helped me keep on track. It's like a miracle and I can't recommend it highly enough.

So, here are this weeks stats:

Weight  - 14st 11lbs
Mounjaro dose - 5mg
BMI - 39.1
Total loss - 1 stone 4lbs

I injected my thigh as I didn't have any side effects last time and I haven't had any this week either.  Whether that's because of the injection site or because my body has adjusted to the medication is hard to say.  I'm going to inject my stomach next time to see what happens. I'll let you know how I get on.

Speak soon.
