My Mounjaro Journey Week 8 - Weekends Away Are Easy
Hello all
I went to London this week. Usually, I would really struggle being away from home as it's too easy to eat and drink constantly. I went to see the Lion King in the afternoon and had dinner out in the evening. I decided to treat myself to beef and ale pie but I only managed to eat half of it. I also tried 0% Thatchers but wouldn't recommend it as I didn't find it fizzy enough. I paid for breakfast in the hotel and had toast, scrambled eggs, fruit and yogurt which meant that I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day.
I injected my thigh this time and I've had no side effects at all; no constipation and no diarrhoea. However, I've developed a funny, sweet taste in my mouth. Apparently, this can mean my body is struggling to regulate blood sugar or a sign of acid reflux or just a side effect of the Mounjaro. I'm having a blood test next week to check how my blood sugar and vitamin D levels are so I might mention it to the nurse and will let SheMed know at my next check in.
I'm really starting to notice the difference in my clothes. Everything is becoming looser and is starting to look too big. This is obviously good news and bad news at the same time. Needing smaller clothes is obviously great but the cost of buying new ones, not so much. I've asked my husband to get some of my old, smaller clothes out of the loft but they'll probably have gone out of fashion (or be back in) by the time he gets round to it.
Now that I'm eight weeks in I can give a better idea of how well Mounjaro works. I can't say I've not eaten anything that is usually deemed bad when on a weight loss plan but I haven't really craved those things either. I've also found that if I do have a chocolate bar or a bag of crisps, my craving is instantly satisfied. This is an alien concept for me.
My daily food plan goes something like this:
Breakfast: Activia walnut & nuts yoghurt with a banana or branflakes with 50ml semi-skimmed milk or toasted rye bread with butter.
Lunch: 60g houmous with 80g carrot sticks or protein thins with ham & salad filling or 120g sliced chicken with mixed salad leaves, a tablespoon of ranch dressing and a tablespoon of croutons.
Dinner: 100g chicken or fish with vegetables or a pasta dish or a curry dish or a stir fry. I've been using Hello Fresh which ensures I get a variety of meals with no waste. It also makes sure that the portion size is right.
Snacks: one apple with a teaspoon of peanut butter or two mini babybels or a small handful of nuts or two satsumas.
I have 3 cups of tea a day, one glass of orange squash and 2 glasses of water. According to most of the stuff I've read, that's nowhere near enough fluid but I just can't drink anymore than that. I'm peeing about 25 times a day as it is and my wee is always pale yellow so I'm clearly hydrated.
I usually have treats on a Wednesday as that's injection day and the day my suppression is at its lowest but, even so, I still can't manage much more than a wagon wheel or a bowl of ice cream.
I know a lot of people have protein shakes or bars and add collagen to their food but, like I've said before, I don't really want to start having this type of supplement unless I really need to. I do take cod liver oil capsules, extra strong vitamin D tablets & a multi-vitamin every day.
This weeks readings are:
Weight - 14st 12.5lbs
Mounjaro dose - 5mg
BMI - 39.5
Total loss - 1 stone 2.5lbs
This medication really is a bit of a miracle but you still have to put the effort in. The difference is, on a normal diet, my willpower would be sorely waning by now and I'd be having more bad days then good. This would inevitably lead to me losing focus which would eventually mean giving up and going back to overeating and gaining back the weight I'd lost. I'm feeling so confident and that's all thanks to Mounjaro.
Until next time...
