My Mounjaro Journey Week 6 - Milestones Achieved

 Hi everyone

So, after telling you I've got the hang of administering the injection, I messed it up again this week.  I decided to inject my stomach as I seem to have fewer side effects. I pinched my skin and, as I was pushing down on the pen, my thumb slipped so I let go of my skin which instantly shot away from the needle. This meant I had only injected half the dose so I had to push the needle back in and finish it off.

I haven't had any diarrhoea at all this week, thank goodness, but I have been a bit constipated.  The problem is, I'm too frightened to take anything for it in case I end up with the squirts.  It's a lose-lose situation. I keep reading how other people are getting on in the vain hope that someone has come up with a solution to the constant jump between the two.

I can't say that I've had full suppression using the 5mg. I still occasionally crave cakes, biscuits and chocolate; however, when I do eat I can't eat very much at all.  I track everything I prepare but not necessarily how much I actually eat.  So, for example, my evening meal might be 600 calories but, because I can't eat it all, I might only consume 400 calories.  This is showing in the amount of weight I'm losing.

It's not healthy to lose more than 1lb - 2lb so I think I may need to start snacking to get enough calories in but I don't see how this helps to train yourself to eat sensibly once you've hit your target. I don't really want to stay on Mounjaro indefinitely because of the effect it has on my stomach and the ongoing cost.  It would be much better if I could learn to eat sensibly.

Which brings me onto a bit of a moan. When I visited my GP in December, my blood results showed that I had vitamin D deficiency and was prediabetic. She recommended that I take a vitamin D supplement and referred me to a weight loss programme.  I received the referral letter which advised me to contact the clinic if I hadn't heard anything by the beginning of March.  Unsurprisingly, I haven't heard anything and, after contacting them, I've been advised that they're 2 months behind with referrals.  I'm guessing the increase in people hoping to get the diet jab on the NHS is the reason but I was hoping to attend the clinic alongside using Mounjaro.  It's really frustrating that I can't get help with addressing the reason I eat too much but I'll let you know if I ever get on the programme.

I'm going on a work trip this week and that usually means eating at fast food venues and restaurants. I'm going to have to take my scales and injection pen with me as my check-in day falls whilst I'm away.  We're permitted to miss one check-in a month but I'd rather not risk it.  The rules of the clinical study allow 3 strikes, after which they kick you off the programme. I don't intend on taking scales with me on my summer holiday abroad so I need to be squeaky clean until then.

Talking of being kicked off the programme, after last weeks meltdowns with people thinking SheMed had supplied them with placebos, this week has had a woman complaining that she's been ripped off.  It transpires that she only checked-in once in a rolling four weeks so, unsurprisingly, she's had her subscription cancelled.  Honestly, people never read the terms and conditions.

Anyway, here's this weeks progress.  I'm so chuffed that my BMI has dropped below 40:

Weight  - 15st 1lbs
Mounjaro dose - 5mg
BMI - 39.9
Total loss - 1 stone 0lbs

I hope you're all finding these blogs helpful.  If you've got any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Until next time x
