Wegovy Week 8 and 9 - It's Nearly Christmas!
Hey everyone
Five more sleeps!
I started my blog last week but didn’t get round to finishing it, so you’re getting two for the price of one this week. In my defence, Christmas is just around the corner and life has been a bit hectic. Between work, social events, and trying to keep myself vaguely organised, the days have slipped away faster than I’d like to admit.
Last week I didn’t lose any weight, but considering what I got up to, I’m honestly amazed I didn’t gain any. I was out on the Friday night enjoying a full three‑course meal and several drinks. Then, only a few days later, I had my work Christmas do on the Tuesday—another three‑course meal, this time accompanied by cocktails. When you look at it like that, maintaining my weight feels like a small Christmas miracle.
As you know, I’m not much of a drinker these days. I gave up alcohol completely at the start of the year to break the habit of drinking at home. Not a drop passed my lips from 6th January until my holiday in September. Since then, I’ve become more of a social drinker again, but because I’m out of practice, it goes straight to my head. One glass of wine and I’m halfway to tipsy, which is both cost‑effective and slightly embarrassing.
I already told you about my night out at the Christmas party. I felt absolutely dreadful the next day—aching legs from dancing, a foggy head, and zero motivation. I had so much to do but ended up writing off the entire day. It’s funny how one night of fun now requires a full 24‑hour recovery period. I used to bounce back like a rubber ball; now I’m more like a dropped soufflĂ©.
With that in mind, I approached my work do with a lot more caution. We started the day with a team breakfast meeting in a pub, tucking into bacon and sausage baps with tea and coffee. By lunchtime we’d migrated to the bar for drinks. I made a conscious decision to avoid wine and opted for a gin and tonic instead. In the old days, I would’ve ordered a large Pinot Grigio and probably downed two before we even reached the restaurant. In fact, the last time we went to that particular restaurant, I was so drunk beforehand that I genuinely don’t remember what I ate. Not my finest moment.
This time, I stuck to my new routine and only ate half of each course. I had nachos to start, followed by chicken fajitas, and finished with a sticky toffee Christmas pudding. Everything was delicious, but Wegovy makes me feel full very quickly, so having a little bit of everything means I still get to enjoy the flavours without overdoing it. I also had three cocktails, but because I stayed off the wine, I wasn’t even tipsy. Still tired the next day, mind you. I think the combination of weight loss, reduced alcohol tolerance, and, let’s be honest, my age, means that a night out takes more out of me than it used to.
To round off the week, I went out for dinner with one of my oldest friends—yes, another three‑course meal. I hadn’t planned on having more than a main, but she wanted a starter, and I felt compelled to join in. Once again, I ate half of everything. And because you know my weakness for ice cream, we shared an ice cream sundae. We also shared a bottle of wine, which felt like a treat rather than a habit, and that’s a nice shift.
Now that all my Christmas gatherings are done, I’m focusing on losing the final pound that will take me to a total loss of five stone. It’s hard resisting the constant offers of mince pies and chocolates, but I’ve decided I’ll enjoy a proper feast on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. That way, I’m not denying myself completely. This whole journey is a learning curve. In the past, I’d have eaten everything in sight by now with the excuse of “it’s Christmas.” This year, I’m trying to find a balance—still enjoying the season, but without undoing all my hard work.

I'm ready for Christmas - bar the wrapping. I've wrapped my husband's gifts because he can't be trusted not to go snooping. Unlike me, he's not a fan of surprises. I'm getting really excited and have started watching my favourite films. I've got one more work day and then I'm off until the New Year. Merry Christmas to you all. I hope you have exactly the sort of Christmas you love, whether that's with friends, family, loved ones, or on your own. Have a wonderful time and make yourself some memories.
See you on the other side x
