My Mounjaro Journey Week 31 - Mounjaro's Bitter End

Hello I’m not very happy at all. After confidently telling you that my Mounjaro medication was protected by my 12-month contract with SheMed, it turns out that it isn’t. I can continue, but the cost will increase from £99 to £279 every four weeks. They’re offering everyone the option of switching to Wegovy instead, and I think that’s what I’m going to have to do. I could afford the increase, but I just can’t justify it when there’s a cheaper alternative. What this means is that my Mounjaro journey will be over in four weeks’ time, so I’ll either have to change the name of my blog or bring it to a close and start a new one. As you can imagine, lots of people are feeling anxious about switching to Wegovy because it doesn’t work in quite the same way as Mounjaro. Both are GLP-1 receptor agonists—a molecule that binds to a receptor and activates it, triggering a biological response—but Mounjaro mimics two hormones: GLP-1 and GIP. GLP-1 is released after you eat and sends a signal to your b...

My Mounjaro Journey Week 30 - The Weight Of Uncertainty

Hey Gang. How's tricks? Well, it appears SheMed are having supply issues. I say this because a couple of people on the Facebook page have posted emails from SheMed saying they aren’t increasing their dose due to limited supplies. They’ve also suspended early refills, which is a nightmare for anyone trying to plan around holidays. I’m still waiting for my new prescription, and the silence is starting to feel ominous. It’s not just SheMed. I’ve seen posts from people using other pharmacies where discount codes have been suspended—apparently due to customers buying from multiple suppliers. It’s starting to feel eerily familiar, like the bulk buying frenzy during Covid when you couldn’t get toilet roll, pasta, or vegetables for love nor money. I sort of understand it. Some people are stretched to their financial limit and go without just to afford Mounjaro. But let’s be honest—it’s probably not those people who are able to spend £1,000 on kwik pens in one go. The upcoming price increas...

My Mounjaro Journey Week 29 - Greedy Me, Side Effects And Costs

Hi all I’ve had a bit of a bad week, and it’s all my fault. I had some friends round for a barbecue at the weekend, and because I can’t eat very much, I didn’t really plan what I was going to have. I started the day with a crumpet and a cup of tea, which kept me going until 2pm when our guests arrived. I had a small piece of chicken with some salad and a sausage with a couple of new potatoes. All good. The problem was that I also bought a load of nibbles, which I put into bowls and placed at strategic points around the house and garden. I had a palmful of peanuts, then a couple of onion rings, followed by a few nachos. This went on for a couple of hours until I’d eaten the equivalent of a small packet of nuts, a small bag of nachos, and half a sharing bag of onion rings. I finished it all off with a Magnum from the freezer. The next morning, I had intended to go and watch one of the grandkids play football but, at the time I should’ve been there, I was sitting on the loo trying to shif...

My Mounjaro Journey Week 28 - How's It Going?

How is everyone? Good I hope I’ve hit the 28th week mark on Mounjaro, and I thought it would be a good time to summarise my journey so far.  That’s over six months of steady progress, mindset shifts, and more non-scale victories than I ever expected. I’m now 12 stone 10.5lbs, down from 16 stone 1lb when I started. That’s a total loss of 3 stone 4.5lbs, and my BMI has dropped to 33.6. I’m still on 7.5mg and, for now, I’m sticking with it—it’s working, and I’ve had very few side effects since the early days. This hasn’t been a crash diet. I’ve lost an average of 1.6lbs per week, which is sustainable and realistic. No cabbage soup, no weird shakes, and no banning entire food groups. I eat actual meals, enjoy my food, and still manage the occasional treat (hello, Mr Whippy). That balance has made all the difference. One of the biggest changes has been the silence. Not in my house—there’s still plenty of shouting at the telly during football matches—but in my head. The constant food n...

My Mounjaro Journey Week 27 - Big Winners And Big Losers

Hello Peeps Sorry, I know this blog is supposed to be about weight loss, but I have to start with the Women's Euros final because... ENGLAND ARE BACK-TO-BACK EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS! And I couldn’t be happier. It was another match where England came from behind, took it to extra time, and ended with a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Hannah Hampton saved two penalties—one from the best footballer in the world—and Chloe Kelly smashed the ball into the back of the net to take the title. Magic. I was gutted I couldn’t get up to London for the celebration on The Mall, but at least it was on at lunchtime so I got to watch it during my break. I bought all the daily papers to keep for posterity and ordered myself the Nike T-shirt the players wore on the bus. It’s really got me buzzing for the new Women’s Super League season. I went to Brighton on Wednesday and visited the Sea Life Centre. I’d definitely recommend it. I know not everyone agrees with keeping wildlife in captivity, and it’s impos...
